FOTOGRAFIA DELLA FAMIGLIA MIA (HAPPY NEW YEAR) – project “IT’S PERSONAL”

FOTOGRAFIA DELLA FAMIGLIA MIA (HAPPY NEW YEAR) – project “IT’S PERSONAL”

I always believed and preached how much is important to visualize when creating my photography work.  But it all goes to shattered pieces like porcelain plates on a Greek dancing floor when it involves my girls and some of the distinguished members of our backyard feathered upper class.

Usually, I am the director of the production.

I repeat:  I AM THE DIRECTOR OF THE PRODUCTION!

As if they cared…

Look at them – do they look as if they cared?!

Drama was hanging over our heads, as the girls would not agree with the staging, props and posing – “why is she wearing the ballerina tutu and I am in a stupid skirt?”; “why am I sitting with the pillows and Lolly is on the stepladder?”; and “why the sun is too hot and right in my left eye?” (Well, it’s summer!).  And then Mademoiselle Coco Le Chook just refused to be trivialized in some second-rated photography script.  She unceremoniously took on the popcorn decoration for the Christmas tree and wasn’t long before it was all demolished, gobbled and gone.  So the celebratory tree was left with only a few ornaments, Santa’s glass head hanging from a branch and a crucified Pinocchio marionette…

I wished Santa brought me some double-sized Dimple or Johnny Blue to numb the self-inflicted pain.

Chaos and drama is what keeps my girls happy and they play it as if they are the leading ladies from one of Pedro Almodóvar’s crazy, neurotic, kitschy, dramatic and passionate movies.

It has been two years since I took this photo and I don’t have any intentions to put myself through this hell again.

Today I am happy just to sit on the verandah, write this NYE blog post, look at them playing in the backyard chasing the kitten and the chickens (photos not included!).  As for me, I am putting up with the glorious heatwave that every Australian Christmas brings us; I am huffing and puffing in my favourite old thin as a paper threadbare t-shirt (and passion-killing undies), while wishing you all a colourful, spontaneous, passionate, crazy, neurotic, dramatic and kitschy New Year!

Please don’t plan it, just enjoy every day of it as it comes.  And if it comes too much to handle, remember there is always a good drop of Dimple or Johnny Blue that can help us get through!

Cheers and love to all!
